Patient flow refers to the process by which patients move through a healthcare facility, beginning with admission and continuing until discharge. It includes everything related to the patient’s visit such as admission, movement between different departments and care units, and ultimately their discharge. It involves all areas of the hospital, such as the emergency department, surgical units, cafeteria, waiting rooms, and various other departments. Ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted patient flow through these areas contributes significantly to patient satisfaction. It helps reduce waiting times, improves access to care, and creates a more positive overall patient experience.
